Back in 2020, I started a YouTube video project called Mariah’s Morning Minutes. Every day I released a video of me singing a song acapella, and I reached one hundred videos.
I’ve resumed the project under the title Voice from the Valley and will put a video out once a week. The selection of songs will range from Argentine folklore, to Cuban boleros, French chansons, American Standards and more.

Last year my husband and I moved to the Calchaqui Valley in the northwest of Argentina. I began a blog on Substack where I write about my experiences living in a foreign land.

As you may know, the great composer Stephen Sondheim passed away recently, and tonight Broadway theatres dimmed their lights in his honor. Sondheim’s career spanned several decades and the tunes he left behind are some of the most iconic of the American theatre.
Earlier this year, I explored some of his works as part of my Art of Cabaret series on YouTube. Somewhere and Anyone Can Whistle are two of my favorites. I hope you’ll enjoy them.
Dream A Little Dream is a song written in 1931 by Gus Kahn, Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt. The French version, Les Yeux Ouverts (Eyes Open) was created by Enzo Enzo in 1990. In the summer of 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, I recorded it for my debut album At Last, the product of a two year collaboration with my pianist and composer Marcus Dagan. Dream A Little Dream is the opening number, and the subject of this short film.
My friend Katharina Baron directed the film with her unique flair. It stars myself, alongside Jerimiyah Dunbar, with cinematography by Maximilian Shmige and editing by Eric Tosstorff. We pulled the shoot together in just 24 hours, and filmed in Los Angeles at a friend’s house.

Recently, a friend asked if I’d like to participate in an online event she was planning called The Good Life, benefitting The Red Devils, a Maryland based organization whose mission it is to fund support services for cancer patients and their families.
So I put together a Cabaret performance of about 20 minutes featuring some of my favorite tunes in English and French such as Dream A Little Dream, Hymne A L’amour (Ode To Love), Keepin’ Out Of Mischief and more. As always, the wonderful Marcus Dagan plays keys. Videographer Bill Taylor filmed.
You can watch it on my YouTube channel here and please don’t forget to subscribe. ;)
